Smoking Inside Allowed Again?

In less than two weeks from now, the Springfield Illinois Legislature will make a decision on bill HB 4012. If passed, it would allow some businesses to apply for smoking licenses that would allow their patrons to smoke in their establishments. Eligible establishments include bars, casinos, adult entertainment night clubs, and any establishment hosting a convention or exposition for selling cigars, pipes, tobacco and related smoking devices and accessories.

In order to take part, businesses would be required to apply for and get a license through a local liquor control commission. It would require the establishment to let all employees know that smoking is allowed on the premises, install an air filtration system, and post a sign in a prominent place notifying the public that it has been designated as a smoking establishment.

The bill would be an amendment to the Smoke Free Illinois Act. Smoking in all indoor public places was banned in Illinois beginning January 1, 2008. State Representative Anthony DeLuca has proposed the bill after introducing a similar one last year. That one passed the committee but never made it to the floor for debate.

V4L’s smokeout event was a great success!

Yesterday was the 36th annual Great American Smokeout. Vapor4Life celebrated by hosting a free event to the public. We offered an electronic cigarette in exchange for a pack of traditional analogs. The event was a great way for us to showcase our brand new Smokeless Lounge and store. Normally open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, we expanded our hours yesterday an extra three hours. We wanted to make sure that as many people as possible who wanted to come in, would have the chance to, whatever their work schedule might be. There was a steady flow of customers throughout the day. In total 70 people attended.

Electronic cigarettes are a fairly new invention. The first design patent was registered in 2003. Having been around for less than 10 years, the product is still not yet mainstream. E-cigarettes have moved on from the market introduction stage of their life cycle, and are now in between the growth and maturity stages. This means that costs are lowered because companies are making more products than before, more companies have entered the market to compete, and each brand is differentiating themselves from their competitors. Although public awareness is increasing each day, there are still tons of people who have never heard of the device.
