Growing up in the heart of Texas in the 80′s and 90′s, cigarettes were everywhere: restaurants, public spaces, outside shops and malls. At every turn the smell incensed the air. Vending machines, easily accessible to kids fed our addictions at $1.50 per pack. At 14 I started smoking because it’s “what all the cool kids were doing.” I had my first cigarette on the drive home from a school event and remember the laughter as I choked on the first inhalation. Not wanting to be laughed at again, I bought a pack and practiced smoking every day after school before my parents got home. After the first few packs, cool was no longer a factor. I did it because I thought I just liked the way they tasted (in the same way an addict might claim they just like the smell of cocaine). And then…
Fifteen years, dozens of failed alternatives (using patches, gum, medicines, inhalers), and a couple of severely blackened lungs later, I finally found the answer. Thanks to the future, I could now smoke without smoking. I could have as much nicotine I craved, but I didn’t have to wade through a sea of tars, additives, and carcinogens to get there. I could still blow smoke rings, but no one would cough accusingly as they walked by. I was sold, and in 2009 I went online and bought my first e-cig.
It was terrible.
I started with a popular ecigarette brand. They seemed chic, looked like the cigarettes I so loved/hated, and had a fancy charger that looked exactly like a pack of smokes. But then I tried them. The vapor I was able to exhale was sparse, tasted nothing like a cigarette or even like anything I’d want to inhale, and the battery died after an hour or so. I tried and tried, but it just wasn’t what I’d hoped. Then my friend Steve (a fellow trend setter and early adopter), pointed me to a website called Vapor4Life. I’d seen the huge clouds of vape Steve exhaled from his single logo Vapor King. So I took the plunge.
Four years later, I haven’t looked back. I’ve tested other brands along the way, but I always come back to Vapor4Life. I’m vaping right now, and I love it. So join the cool kids. We all vape now
