How To Fill An Electronic Cigarette Tank

Tank on EGO

A tank is a cartomizer surrounded by an acrylic tank. It has a long silver cartomizer, an acrylic tube, and two end caps that have rubber gaskets on either side of the tube. The cart can be completely removed from the tank so it can be cleaned. Tanks are fully compatible with Vapor4Life’s Vapor King and Vapor Titan Manual Batteries, EGO, OMG All Day, and OMG VV.

Different Strokes for Different Folks

There are several ways to fill cartomizers and do other tasks involved with e-cigarettes. Often there is no right or wrong way to do something. The correct directions are the ones that work best for you. It’s a good idea to try a few methods and then settle on the one you are most comfortable with. Here are two different ways to fill a tank. They both work, but I prefer the second set of instructions to the first. One thing that everyone can agree on, is to always use a manual battery when refilling juice yourself.

Instructions #1

1) Lay a paper towel on the surface you are using. Remove the drip tip. Push the silver cartomizer down through the bottom of the tank about 1/2 inch. You should see a small gap between the top of the tank and the clear acrylic side of the tank.

2) Tilt the tank slightly and fill directly into the cart until it overflows. Then fill the tank that surrounds the cart. Leave some room to push the cart back inside the tank.

3) Push the cart back up inside the tank. The pieces should fit very tight, so be sure the metal gaskets are flush with the tank. Wipe off any juice that may have spilled. Put a drip tip on the cartomizer and screw on a battery. You’re ready to vape.

4) Refill when the juice is getting low on the outside of the cartomizer.

Instructions #2

1)  Lay a paper towel on the surface you are using. Remove the drip tip and the top metal gasket.

2) Fill the tank about 3/4 full on the sides of the open tank.

3) Keeping the cart in the tank, put the drip tip on the cart. Try not to push the cart out of the tank.

4) Carefully cover the hole on the bottom of the cart with your finger. You are going to inhale lightly to prime the cart. Keep checking your cart and

seeing if the cart is saturated enough but not too much. You will notice the liquid start to disappear from the side of the tank indicating it is going in the cart. Be careful not to inhale too hard as you will pull liquid into your mouth and flood the cart which causes leaking and ruins the cart.

5) Fill the tank that surrounds the cart again 3/4 or less.  Push the cart back up inside the tank. Set the tank on a flat surface and replace the metal gasket and drip tip.The pieces should fit very tight, so be sure the metal gaskets are flush with the tank.

6) Inhale on the tank without your finger on the bottom of the tank so air flows through the tank and you pull any leaking liquid back up in to the cart. Wipe off any juice that may have spilled. Screw on a battery. You’re ready to vape.

7) Repeat steps 1, 5, and 6 when the juice is getting low on the outside of the cartomizer.

Which method do you use to fill your tank?

    Instructions #2

Remove the drip tip and the top metal gasket.when refilling O.o scared to take anything apart! for fear it wont go back together..Thanks though AS as this should help lots of people :)

  3. I just got my first tank and after reading a bit to try to figure out what I wanted to do to fill it, I went with #2. First time filling and I was very comfortable with doing it like that. It worked out very well for me but “priming” the cart made me really nervous and probably took 15 minutes.

  4. I’m glad you had a good experience filling your tank the first time. And yes, I think the priming part is a bit nerve-racking for most people if at least just for the first few times doing it. Happy vaping!

  5. Actually, I’ve found an even better way (in my opinion) to fill tanks, and it takes steps from both #1 and #2.

    1) Remove the drip tip and push the cart down through the bottom gasket until there’s a small gap between the top of the cart and the bottom of the top gasket.
    2) Tilt the tank just enough to squeeze juice into it without getting any into the cart. Stop just before the juice level reaches the top of the cart.
    3) Push the cart back through the top gasket, replace the drip tip, then place a finger over the bottom gasket. Inhale lightly to prime, checking the cart after each inhale to be sure it doesn’t become over-saturated.
    4) Once the cart is sufficiently saturated, remove the drip tip again, push the cart back through the bottom gasket as in step 1, tilt the tank, and add more juice (again, not into the cart) to make up for the juice taken into the cart.
    5) Push the cart back up through the top gasket and replace the drip tip.
    6) Without a finger on the bottom gasket, inhale very lightly to clear the way through the cart for airflow.
    7) Clean up any spilled juice, screw the tank on, and enjoy!

Directly filling the cart to overflowing as directed in #1 resulted in each inhale sounding like a water pipe and created very little vapor. Removing and replacing the top gasket as directed in #2 caused juice to squirt right out of the bottom of the tank.

I hope this is helpful for anyone who has problems with either or both of the instructions above.

    • That’s a great idea! I agree with you 100%. The instructions that are included are lousy instructions. No offense meant, but that way is a great way to make a mess, lose juice (money) and possibly damage the battery.

  6. how do you know if the cart is saturated?? is there a video somewhere?? i watched a few videos on youtube and tried to do it and my tank keeps leaking. Ive wasted $12 worth of fluid and its $6 just for shipping. Im getting extremely frustrated!

  7. Just filled my tank first option screwed on to battery then un screwed to take it off and all the juice splilled out ? What am I doing wrong, just wasted so much juice!!!!!!

    • Hi Carol, filling tanks can take some time to get used to. You’ll be a pro in not time though! After filling, take a paper towel and place it under the tank as you blow excess juice out of the cartomizer. Then take slow long drags when using a tank to allow the juice to filter through properly to avoid leaking.

    • Unfortunately, you are probably following Instructions #1. Those instructions should be stricken from existence because that’s what will happen. :( Here’s another poster

I have been vaping for ~3 years, using tanks for ~1.5 years. Here is what has worked for me..

      1) Remove drip tip and battery
      2) Push cart all the way up
      3) Slowly drip in eliquid bottle around the top / into the cart at a slight angle..let liquid settle while turning, to drip in more…staying away from dripping liquid directly down the center of the cart. When liquid takes more then ~10 seconds to finally go down on all “sides”, and when the top looks saturated, that is a good point to stop
      4) Push down the cart a 3/4″ or so, gently push at the end of cart sticking out, to push at a slight angle to fill tank 3/4rs way
5)Push cart back up and put tip and batt back on
      5) When needed, keep batt contact clean with canned air / paper towel
      End Quote.
In another post, they say something else important:

Also, this method is for a new cart, as long as you refill when there is very little liquid in the tank, then just steps 4-5-5 are needed..until the cart starts to have a burnt taste, or the vape doesn’t have as good as throat hit..usually a new blank cart a week does well for me
      End quote

This advice, in my opinion, is spot on.

  8. I use a variation on a theme. Basically, I use instructions #2 and it works much, MUCH better than instructions #1. The carto is saturated more thoroughly and it’s right ready to use. With instructions #1, all I ever ended up with was a mess as the juice dripped out of the bottom of the carto, wasting juice (money).

I vote for #2! That set of instructions should be moved up to #1! :)

BTW, Thanks Vapor4Life for your wonderful products !

  11. approximately how many drops does it take to fill a cool cart blank cartomizer?? And how do you know when to change to a new cart?
