I don't know where this goes, but I see some other feedback here so here goes.
The short version is I don't like it. The reasons why are as follows:
First off, the previous website took some getting used to, I'll admit that, but that was mostly due to some strange design descisions rather than the layout itself. Different products were separated on the main list menu on the left like each type of liquid and battery when they really should have just been sub menus of a primary liquids and batteries menu.
Another issue was that there was no clear visual destinction between one menu link to another, nor enough contrast between them and the white background.
Finally the wishlist was difficult to find which just seemed silly, considering I spent a lot of time making weighty descisions on my wishlist.
The new site has many more problems than it cured.
Starting with the home page, it looks more like advertising than shopping. Vapor4Life isn't a store in a mall, it has a specific address that people tend to need to know before showing up here, usually referred to or informed of by outside influences (the ECF). The massive ad window that blocks everything, and the home page that tries to sell me on ideas rather than show me products that may be on sale or give me information like how tanks stand up vs cartos is kind of annoying. But I understand, you don't want to lose potential customers interest I guess. I just don't think many customers show up to read such a cluttered home page (Google knows).
Staying on the home page - the icons for different items is cute, but looks more like advertising than user interface. It's also inconsistent as the icons only appear on the front page instead of creating that visual link with the customer. The forum link being all the way at the bottom is also burying what I've seen to be a wonderful community that is always ready to help even the most inexperienced vaper, and the only reason I found it was because I was looking for it specifically.
Moving on to the actual item pages - The old site had clear and distinctive pictures that showed you exactly what a product was, and in the case of the batteries exactly what they looked like. The battery selection between the titan stealth and diamond makes no distinction between the two, and it's in direct opposition to the "grab new customers" design of the home page.
The black section is a contrast to the white, and usually this is done to show a seperate element on a site like advertising or a disclaimer/legal nonsense. It's not usually to show more products under the same category. It's a poor visual queue. The descriptions are also nonsense. The manual states "Made for your e-liquid" and the auto says "Attach a cartomizer" while making no distinction between what an auto and a manual is. A new user is likely to believe one is for liquids and one is for cartos since that's what it says. The difference between liquids and cartos is something I was very confused about myself a few months ago when I first started, as well atomizers, tank cartridges etc., so I'm speaking from experience here, as I'm sure many others were similarly lost when they first started. Then there's the lack of distinction between the Original King (which looks like a Diamond to me) and the Classic, nor that they are further alternatives to the Titan. It all just looks like black batteries to me, and I'll tell you what got me to buy from Vapor4Life was the image of the Titans in the wide range of colors looking distinct and soft-touchy. The new pictures don't do that for me at all.
And yes, I know there's a popup that tells me the differences between Autos and Manual, but what's the point of adding another layer through links when the entire page is covered in lacking information?
The liquid page is also a little weird, but I guess it works. That's more of it taking some getting used to. It helps you find exactly what you're looking for, but only if you already know what you're looking for. I don't think it does as good a job as guiding you through the options as the previous layout, but the previous layout needed some work itself. Anyway, I don't really like the new pictures, they look generic and literally splashy for no reason which makes me think the product isn't selling itself. All the new pictures look less appetizing, except the cinamon roll one. That one looks better, except for the splash. What is that anyway? What does that wave of water represent?
I do like the new side menu tho, it distinguishes between the different items and sublayers neatly. Really, the new menu layout (maybe a little bigger) and a quick link to wishlists seems to be, to me, the only thing that needed work.
Oh also, the black and orange, and now that I think about it, the flavor images as well, remind me of smokeless image. I like black and orange, they're two of my favorite colors/shades. But Vapor4Life always seemed a little more peppy, colorful and lighthearted than black and orange. Almost excited about potentially preventing a slow, horrible and agonizing death in it's customers.
I miss that.
But hey, if it all works to boost sales, then go for it!
