I've been busy as hell for the last few months, working on a few big projects (and hence haven't been around here as much as normal), and part of that has included reading even more than my usual "book a day" consumption. so, over the last couple months I've read...
RESEARCH - Project 1
The Comic Book Makers - Joe Simon
Joe Simon, A life in Comics - Joe Simon
The Comic Book Heroes - Gerard Jones
Men of Tomorrow - Gerard Jones
Stan Lee & the Rise and Fall of Superhero Comics - Tom Spurgeon
Tales to Astonish - Ronin Ro
Eisner/Miller - Edited by Charles Bronstein
The Jack Kirby Interviews - The Comics Journal/Gary Groth
The Ten Cent Plague - David Hadju
Foul Play - The Artists behind EC Comics - Grant Geissman
Our Gods Wear Spandex - Chris Knowles
RESEARCH - Project 2
The Widowmaker - Mike Resnick
The Widowmaker Reborn - Mike Resnick
(big adventure-style Sci Fi, highly recommended)
Oryx & Crake - Margaret Atwood (a unique and powerful take on a "future gone wrong"... one of the best in the genre and definately one of Atwood's best books, period)
Channel SK1N - Jeff Noon (Jeff's first new novel in almost a decade, and well worth the wait!)
Falling Out of Cars - Jeff Noon (Jeff's last novel, prior to the new one, which I had never read, but while it is VERY good, it is a very challenging read... it makes your brain WORK, unlike his "Manchester" trilogy, which just scoops you up and carries you away. Futuristic work, less Sci Fi, more "this could happen" takes)
Bare Fared Messiah, the unauthorized Biography of L Ron Hubbard (read this after seeing the trailer for "the Master")
We Did Porn, A Memoir - Zak Smith (Zak is a fine artist, who had an unexpected side career into the world of "adult entertainment". It is one of the most powerful, funny, and well-written bios I've ever read... topped off with the many paintings of Zak's included in the book, and it has become one of my favorite books. Ever. Obviously, not for everyone, but it is a great book)
Fifty Shades of Grey - E L James (which I read to see what the fuss was about... this may be one of the single worst written books I have ever read in my life. Holy crap it is horrible and bad.
Starting Kevin J. Anderson's Saga of the Seven Suns series right now, as well as some other books.
