Mine is my "real world" first name, which I legally changed the spelling of when I was in high school in order to clearly differentiate myself from my father, who had the same name. My grandfather named my dad after a character in a book. The character in said book was a dog. So, I have the slightly-altered-second-generation-name-of-a-fictional-dog.
Mine goes back about 20 years....I work in manufacturing operations and I used to have to speak with a manufacturing plant of ours in Bangor Maine. One day in the dead of winter I called up there and asked the plant manager '....how cold is it up there?" In his heavy New England accent with a very deliberate cadence he says "....its so cold, it could freeze the balls, off a brass monkey". after laughing I said "...man you have more funny sayings, where did that one come from". He went on to explain the urban myth about the old wooden ships used to stack canon balls on a brass plate because the brass was soft it would slightly indent and they could stack the canon balls on it. But when it got too cold the brass would contract more than the steel balls and the balls would all go rolling around the deck. Hence the saying. For some reason it has always stuck with me and I started using it as a username. He had some other doozies too like "....whoa!, thats meaner than Cat %^$# on a crepe sole shoe"...but I never could come up with a usable username from that one lol
Anyhow there it is. nothing to do with Brass monkey, you funky monkey.... Although I did get to visit a pub in Perth Aus called the Brass Monkey a few years ago
I love seeing how everyone picked their names! I am still having trouble knowing if some are male or female tho... and not knowing real names.. not that it matters, but I always picture someone in my head when I read their posts and when I am thinking it's a girl it's weird when I find out it's a dude.( or vice versa).....LOL
