I'm sorry to be such a downer, but this evening I had to let my 14 year old Dalmatian go to a better place. He had been having a few problems lately, but nothing seemed serious. He went out into they yard, came back in and wanted out a few minutes later. When he hadn't barked to come back in I saw him in the yard. He couldn't get up and was whimpering. I brought him in the house and he couldn't stand and could not straighten his body.
I rushed him to the vet and discovered he had a mass in his abdomen, which had ruptured. He began to tremble, couldn't move and was breathing with difficulty.
I made the most horrible decision in my life...to let him go without more suffering. I lay beside him, kissing him and whispering how wonderful he was, how I love him and that it was OK.
Truly, this dog saved my life, kept me sane and was my best friend.
My heart is broken beyond repair.
