I think I'm done
When I started out using V4L, I did so with such enthusiasm. Vaping is a great alternative to smoking. I started with a vapor king auto kit, with cartos. Moved onto the vapor Titan with tanks. Love it.
But it's all such a pain in the ass. I enjoyed the "hobby" of it all for a while, but it's become such a chore. I'm sick of batteries that take 5 hours to charge, only to die after and hour of vaping. I'm sick of leaky tanks, flooded carts. I'm sick of getting that burning juice in my mouth!!
Why is all this happening? Smoking is easy. You light a cigarette and suck. Easy. Is there a product out there that I can use with the same amount of ease? Something that won't leak, won't flood, won't get juice in my mouth, and lasts longer than it takes to charge. I've had it up to here with it all, and I'm just looking for some friendly suggestions or help to keep me from going back to smoking.
And yes, I know how to properly fill a tank. But after several puffs, or several refills, they always tend to flood.
Have you tried their new offerings? I'm a recent convert, admittedly, and only off stinkies for a little over two months and two weeks.
The Zeus takes 2-3 hours to charge, and while the DAV does take longer, I just leave it in the charger before I go to bed. So yeah, the I use the Zeus when the DAV is charging, and vice versa, and although I've missed charging the Zeus a couple of times, it does last a whole day for me. I'd say I vape around 2mL total per day.
The smileomizers are awesome as well. Doesn't leak. I use a syringe to make sure it's full on the first fill. I rotate between 2 tanks and 3 smileos to prevent the so-called vaper's tongue. I've had a couple of cartos go meh, with one flooding, and the other drawing tight after a day, but I just switched the cartos out Darin style. I'll find the link if you're interested.
So yeah, try the Zeus and the smileomizers.
They even have a good sale going on right now. 25% off regular and 15% off specials/bestsellers.
I don't know man. That's a big investment when I've already sunk hundreds of dollars into this alternative and I've had it up to "here" with it all. I don't even understand how the smileomizer works. Is it just a big carto?
I'm sorry to hear that, redbeardrob. Admittedly, there are hassles that come with vaping, but there are hassles with smoking too...smokers are just used to them. Given enough time, vapers get used to what seems like hassles with vaping after a certain point as well. If you are looking for advice-- (which I assume you are as you are posting on this forum...) here is what most people eventually end up doing:
Buy the Zeus and the DAV. Buy several. The DAV's last a long time, have variable voltage and to be honest, they just freaking rock. the Zeus has the advantage of being both manual and auto. Also with the USB charging the down time is significantly less than the usable time.
If you are having problems with tank flooding get enough gear to be able to rotate, and learn to do it. The chief cause of tank flooding is due to chain-vaping and/or over-heating. When your tank starts to get noticeably hot to the touch, rotate to a cool tank. This will also prevent over-saturation of the tank carto due to excessive vaping over the short-term (chain vaping) which leads to leakage.
Use Smileos. Yes they are giant cartos, but the work great and last a long time. Their life-span can be extended by frequent topping-off and using the "rotate" method described above.
Yes it's a significant initial investment, and yes it can be a PIA, but for me the health benefits, the lack of offensive odor, the cost savings over time, and how I feel every morning when I get up now as opposed to how I did when I smoked are well worth a little hassle.
I hope this helps, and I hope you give vaping a little more time before waving goodbye!
Here's Darin's vid on swapping cartos. The "insert video" does not work for me right now.
Huh. Thanks for the tip on rotating tanks. I did chain vape the tank that flooded. Oops. Yummy strawberry. I usually rotate, but I do remember enjoying the heck of strawberry for a couple, 3 days.
As for the cost, real stinkies here were costing me around $7.70, and at a pack a day, well...
2 months, 14 days and 9 hours since my last cigarette. $580.29 saved and 1,507 cigarettes avoided!
I've spent less than half that, and I still have 2 unopened cartos and about 50mL ejuice. My car smells better. I can smell and taste better. I can actually keep up with the kids without having to catch my breath. If anything, I think going back to stinkies is more expensive and more work.
Redbeardrob sir vaping will never be as "easy" as smoking. Using just the plain starter kits and batts are like the middle ground between cigarettes and cigars, once you start using tanks and bigger batteries, you get to the same "fiddle" level as you would with cigars, and once you move onto mods with removable batteries or rebuildables well now you're taking on pipe smoking level fiddling. There will be leaks, there will be charging time, there will be a large number of little quirks no matter what kit you go with.
If you want to keep vaping it will be an investment, even if you go back to smoking that's an investment. While the $6-7 or more for a pack might seem cheaper than dropping another 30-100 on new different equipment think how much that will cost you a week. If only a pack a day that's $42-49 a week if not more, 2 PAD that's $84-98, list goes on.
My suggestion take a deep breath and relax for a moment. If you stick with tanks you already know what drawbacks to expect. Would upgrade to bigger batts if you want more use time. Keep in mind the DAV's take a while to charge, so get 2. If you want something quicker to charge and don't mind giving up variable voltage for 5v fixed, go with a Zeus. There are plenty of options, and yes they will cost money but as do all alternatives.
Sorry to hear of your frustrations Redbeardrob :( I know those too well. When I get frustrated with what I have I do what has been suggested, get new stuff. You want to start off slow, get a few to try out to see if it lowers your frustration level. Keep looking until you find what works for you. I've gone through these transitions several times in the last 3.5 years. I find the perfect setup and I'm happy for several months. Then things start going downhill and I get frustrated with burnt or leaky tanks, or having to refill tiny cartos 5 times a day. So I start searching for a solution to the problems I'm having.
I agree with the suggestion of smileos and Zeus. The drawback of the DAV is that you don't like charging and DAVs take forever and a day to charge! Don't get me wrong, I love them, but it doesn't sound like something you would like. The smileos won't leak like the tanks as there's no extra juice floating around ready to dump at the worst times. Although to prevent burning you do want to, as was suggested above, make sure there's plenty of juice in it at all times. I keep a bottle with me to do periodic top offs and I make sure to top off at least once a day, normally before I go to bed and then let them sit all night so that the juice can soak in properly. You also want to make sure you have enough for when they go bad, which they will do periodically like everything else.
Best of luck Redbeardrob! Hang in there!
