This is very confusing as on this page here:
Manual Electronic Cigarette USB Passthrough
"The Vapor King USB passthrough is a wonderfully convenient, USB-powered way to enjoy e-cigarette cartomizers.
Simply plug the USB connector into a power-supplied connection on your desktop computer, laptop, wall adapter, or car adapter, screw on a cartomizer and vape.
No worries about having a charged battery, because the USB passthrough draws power directly from the source.
This USB passthrough works with most USB ports. It features a durable, reinforced wire connection and the convenience of a partially coiled cable—far superior to the standard KR808D-1 compatible e-cig passthroughs on the market!"
So either A. The Vapor4Life team is lying and actively encouraging people to do something dangerous or B. The people on the forum who claim it's dangerous are wrong.
I've been using my USB passthrough on my desktop for months as that was what it was sold to me for. If this is not the intended purpose the store description should be changed.
It's just my opinion of course, but I'm not sure if I would agree with a black/white "lying vs wrong" classification on this one. There are a variety of different cartos and such you can use with the PT, some of which are not very likely to draw a large current and damage sensitive components, and some which may (and in some folks experience, have).
I have no idea what the numbers are for exactly how likely it is that you would damage your laptop/computer mainboard with your PT with a given ohm-rated cartomizer, but let's assume for the sake of discussion that it's a fairly low number. A fraction of a percent, even. Even with that small number, the advice to simply avoid using it this way and avoid even the minute risk of damaging very expensive computer equipment seems like prudent, if overzealous, advice.
Ultimately though, I would agree with you that Vapor4Life should update their product description to be more informative about this issue.
If someone's computer did fry as a result of using a passthrough as advertised they would have a fairly strong claim to hold Vapor4Life liable for damages.
You may be right! I am not a lawyer, so have no idea how that would play out in a court of law...
Vapor4Life can't possibly know what type of equipment you are plugging your PT into. If you plug it into your 10yr old computer and fry your MoBo...that's not Vapor4Life's fault. You should know the limit of your own gear. I learned long ago that just because something does plug in, doesn't mean it should be plugged in! I've fried/burned/melted things before
I agree with Blue. The chance of something bad happening is minute, that's why they don't mention it on their website. The people on this forum are just being nice and trying to warn people of their own fears and trying to let them know about a "better" option. That's all. Nothing sneaky or deceiving.
There's a bit of a disconnect between you forum people and the store and the fact that the device is sold specifically for computers while the forums say "NEVER USE WITH COMPUTER".
I have a very nice computer with USB 3.0 and a very strong power supply, however the store says to use it with a laptop, which most likely will not have those things. You make a straw-man argument with your first paragraph.
then why all the FUD from you and(mainly seems to come from) Morandir835?The chance of something bad happening is minute, that's why they don't mention it on their website.

To help those here not familiar with that acronym, FUD = Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. Often used in a derogatory manner to imply purposeful deceit or intent to manipulate for evil purposes.
Morandir835 is an admin here, and a respected source of detailed technical knowledge on this forum as well as ECF. He is far from a "spreader of FUD".
I don't think that term at all describes what the "forum people" are trying to do here. Your posts seem a bit adversarial/aggressive on this topic. I personally don't feel any need to defend it further, though, and have nothing further to say on this thread. I hope you continue to enjoy your passthrough on whatever USB source you choose to power it from!

There is a simple explanation why us "forum people" and the Vapor4Life website have differing opinions. We are different. I do not work for/at Vapor4Life and most of the lovely, helpful people on this forum also do not.
I used my PT on my laptop and desktop with no ill effects. I also have not been one to discourage it. I put the info out there for everyone, but that's mainly what I do. I put info out there. It is up to the individual person on what they do.
