COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease which is a group of diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing-related problems. Chronic tobacco smoking is the leading cause of COPD. November is COPD Awareness Month, sponsored by the US COPD Coalition. In addition to the month-long educational campaign, the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease organizes World COPD Day annually to improve awareness of the disease around the world. This year it falls on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 around the theme "It's Not Too Late." Health care professionals, educators, and patient groups organize activities to help educate the public and offer ways to manage COPD.
Symptoms of COPD include coughing, fatigue, having many respiratory infections, shortness of breath, and wheezing. Doctors test for COPD using a stethoscope, x-rays, CT scans, and/or blood tests. A lung function test called spirometry is a simple, non-invasive breathing test that measures the amount of air a person can blow out of their lungs and how fast he or she can blow it out. The results can be checked right away to detect COPD and its severity. There is no cure for COPD, but there are treatments that reduce symptoms and prevent the disease from worsening. These include medications, exercise, healthy diet and surgery.
Vapor4Life Founder and CEO Steve "Smilin" Milin
suffers from COPD. He began smoking cigarettes in his early teens. He chain-smoked multiple packs every day for 40 years. It eventually caught up with him and he was diagnosed with COPD and asthma.
Steve used many products designed to stop smoking. He tried everything from going cold turkey, to nicotine gum and patches, medications, hypnosis, acupuncture, psychology, and psychiatry. Nothing worked for him, until he found e-cigarettes to replace his smoking habit. Electronic cigarettes are the only product that mimics tobacco cigarettes
in a way that makes the user feel like they are actually smoking a real analog cigarette. He started using them in 2008 and decided to make his own products to suit his needs best. Steve wants to help people switch to a tobacco-less alternative. He did all the research, development and testing to perfect his own brand of Vapor4Life products. The hard part of creating the perfect ecig is done, the rest is up to you. If you're a smoker, how about giving e-cigarettes a try? If you already use them, we applaud you on your journey to a better lifestyle!
