In the past 10 years, e cigarettes have become so popular that nearly every smoker has at least heard of them, but not every smoker has tried an e cigarette. If you’re a smoker, you’ve probably considered e cigarettes, but maybe you’ve wondered, “How Do I Start Vaping?” With how quickly the industry has grown over the past decade, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed, or to think that e cigarettes are a fad for millennials. It’s also easy to confuse e cigarettes that are designed for smokers, and mods that made are for more advanced vapers. When Vapor4Life was started by a former smoker in 2008, our goal was to give smokers an alternative that felt just like smoking. So, if you've been looking for an easy guide that covers vaping for beginners, you've come to the right place. The answers are much simpler than you probably think. STEP ONE: Start with Disposable E CigarettesDisposable e cigarettes are the perfect starting point for someone trying to understand vaping for beginners. E cigs are designed to have the form factor of traditional cigarettes, and require no preparation or maintenance, especially if you use one of our disposable e cigs. Since our disposables were designed by a former smoker, they provide you with nicotine and satisfy your hand-to-mouth habit. Unfortunately, many of the disposable e cigs you get at convenience stores are not effective to satisfy the form factor and function a smoker looks for in a smoking alternative. I once got a free e cigarette at a bar, and I did not stick with vaping because it didn’t feel like a cigarette. That’s why it’s important to choose a well-made disposable e cig. Here are a few benefits to ours:
Excellent chest and throat hit
True tobacco and menthol taste
2.6% nicotine content
Size and shape of a cigarette
Soft, chewable tip
Lasts longer than a pack
Easy to use: just put it in your mouth and vape it!
STEP TWO: Move on to Vapor Cigarettes After you’ve been vaping disposable e-cigarettes, you may be ready for something that is more customizable and gives you an even more powerful throat hit. That’s where vapor cigarettes come in. Vapor cigarettes are slightly larger than disposable e-cigs, but operate the same way. Most of the time, there are no buttons to push, but you can choose between prefilled cartridges or different e juice flavors and nicotine levels to use with refillable cartridges to help you customize the way you vape. Our vapor cigarettes were designed with the smoker in mind. Here’s why they stand out:
Powerful throat and chest hit
Customizable nicotine levels (from 0 mg to 36 mg); you can experiment until you find what works for you
STEP THREE: Vape Mods and Dry Herb VaporizersIt’s totally normal to stick with disposable e-cigarettes or vapor cigarettes for as long as you vape. Some people —as they get more familiar with vaping and need less nicotine— start experimenting with box mods and dry herb vaporizers. This is where the options become endless. Vape mods are those box-shaped devices you’ve seen people blowing giant clouds with. They are often operated by a push-button function and can be customized to provide more vapor, a lower temperature, and other functions. We try out mods and dry herb vaporizers to make sure you have the best options possible. Here are some of the perks to mods and herb vaporizers.
More customization
Often use lower nicotine levels
Sometimes rebuildable to personalize
Good results with high-VG (vegetable glycerin) juices
Dry herb vaporizers are used with wax, CBD oil, or dry herbs (hence the name). Dry herb vaporizers are usually not to be used with e juice. STEP FOUR: Join the Vaping CommunityWhen you start vaping, you’re likely to have more questions come up as you go. Luckily, there are hundreds of vapers on the E-Cigarette Forum (ecf), on Facebook, and on Twitter who are happy to offer tips and tricks on vaping for beginners. If you ever get stuck, feel free to contact our customer service department, or shoot us an email. We’re here to help you on your journey! Vape on!
VG is vegetable glycerin and PG is propylene glycol. Both are organic compounds and classified as GRAS (generally regarded as safe). Quick aside before a more detailed explanation: propylene glycol is more chemically sounding and ominous word than vegetable glycerin but PG is actually found in a huge range of consumable products including condiments, dressings, bread, soda pop, cake mix, dried soup etc.
VG and PG serve the same basic purpose in an ejuice- they serve as the base in which the nicotine and flavors are suspended. Despite serving the same purpose, they have significant differences.
Vegetable glycerin is more viscous, has a sweet flavor that impacts the final ejuice flavor, and creates more buildup and gunk on your coils than PG does. It also heats up slower and requires more power from your device to vaporize. The sweetness of VG limits the sharpness of some flavors although this sweetness is incorporated in many formulations because it is widely used. On the plus side, VG is easier on your throat and creates thicker, denser clouds. Make sure you allot extra time for VG juice to soak into your device because it will take longer to penetrate the wick because it is thicker and more viscous. High VG juices are most effective when "sub ohm vaping" using a mod device.
Propylene Glycol has is famous for providing more of a "throat hit" than high VG juices. Because it is less viscous, you can vape sooner after filling your tank or device for the first time. It is also easier to handle and fill your device with. It has no flavor and this is an advantage when formulating e-juices- especially those that are not fruity or sweet. High PG juices are preferred by many former smokers.
Balancing the benefits of these two bases is crucial in a high quality e-juice. At Vapor4Life, many of our flavors are available in high and low PG. Here is an article on the subject we wrote a couple years ago:
