quit-smoking-resolutions This year is the year.   Have you said that to yourself before about smoking? Have you said that to yourself every year for as long as you can remember? Have you had so many failed quit smoking resolutions you want to give up? If your answer is yes, you’re not the only one. Every year, throughout the world, tens of thousands of people resolve not to smoke cigarettes. For 2017, “quit smoking” was the #4 New Year’s Resolution listed on Statistics Brain. Unfortunately, smoking is also one of the hardest habits to break and many smokers often resign themselves to giving up after they’ve tried patches, pills and gum.   Still, many smokers are hesitant to try e-cigarettes. Why is that? Because e-cigarettes have gotten a really bad rap.   The world of vaping has changed a lot in the past decade:
  • The technology got better
  • The reputation got worse
  • The focus changed
When e-cigarettes were first introduced to the world, they almost solely appealed to smokers who wanted an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. At the time, the technology was less than perfect, but many smokers still found vaping to be a trusty alternative.   It was during this time that Vapor4Life’s founder invented his own e-cigarette after months of learning facts and meeting people on the E-Cigarette Forum. Oh, and he tried lots of e-cigs. Lots and lots of them. But now, smokers are afraid to vape.      Why Smokers Are Afraid to Vape     Fast forward to 2017. The technology and culture of vaping has changed so much that some smokers shy away from vaping.
  • The media has given vaping a bad name
  • Smokers associate vaping with mods and cloud chasing
But the media only tells a fraction of the story and the media only tells the story they want you to hear. Yes, cloud chasers are part of the vaping community, but that’s not all there is to vaping.   Yes, there are vapers who have big beards and blow giant clouds. We love them too. But there are also vapers who are grandmas and grandpas who just wanted to keep their resolutions.   Why Smokers Switch to Vaping So, maybe you’re hesitant to try e-cigarettes becuase you’ve heard a lot of bad things about them in the news. You’ve read about batteries exploding, you’ve read about the FDA regulations that tell you e-cigs are tobacco products. They’re not. There’s no tobacco in an e-cigarette. There is nicotine, but nicotine isn’t the bad guy. Yes, nicotine has addictive properties, but, as Michael Russell (who was, by the way, considered the father of tobacco harm reduction) stated more than 40 years ago, “People smoke for nicotine, but they die from the tar.” Michael Russell was also the early developer of the nicotine patch. The nicotine patch solved the issue of satisfying a smoker’s need for nicotine and took away the dangers of inhaling tar (though of course the nicotine patch can bring about a whole host of problems itself). After getting over the initial icky feeling when you first try a cigarette (which I first did when I was 18), there are a few things that keep you hooked, despite any nausea you might have.
  1. Nicotine
  2. The hand-to-mouth ritual
E-cigarettes give you the nicotine and the hand-to-mouth ritual without the tar. Also, e-cigs are no longer uncomfortable to smoke if you find the right one for you. You can buy an e-cigarette starter kit that looks and feels like a cigarette.   Don’t let the media fool you. Don’t let the twisted reputation of vaping fool you. Countless smokers switch to vaping every year. This year, why don’t you be one of them? This year, put those quit smoking resolutions to rest.     Are you a smoker who has switched to vaping? Tell us your story in the comments. We would love to hear from you!
