Puff Bar versus Juul
In just one year, a lot has changed in the world of vaping. If you are an adult vaper who wants access to the bright and complex eliquid flavors that the majority of ex-smokers prefer, the changes have been for the worse.
A year ago, Juul was beginning to rollback their choice of flavors in the face of government pressure. Today, they are down to just two flavors. The federal government has banned flavored prefilled vape pods.
Luckily, if you live in a state that does not have further flavor restrictions, adult vapers can still enjoy flavored ejuices and more specifically the potent nic salt eliquids that Juul innovated. The most cost effective method is using a refillable vape pod kit and filling it with a bottle of nic salt ejuice.
Vape pod kits have never been more user friendly and high tech. There is a huge range of nic salts to choose from and many work just as well with Wow and Premium eliquids and even have coil options that can handle cloud chucking duties and high VG, lower nicotine eliquids.
But as easy as simple as refillable vape pods are to use, disposable ecigs are easier still to use. Simply open the packaging, remove the silicone stoppers and vape. And ease of use is no small deal. Most adult vapers are just looking for an easy to use and satisfying ecig with great flavor. Juul made hay with a simple device that was satisfying and disposables have adopted that same template for success.
Puff Bar may be the best known disposable vape but there is a ton of competition. There is a reason why Vapor4Life carries so many disposables, there is a lot of overlap between the flavor selections. Basically, there are some disposable vapes greatest hits that are by far the most popular flavors with adult vapers. These include Mango, Mint, Lush Ice, Lychee Ice, and several others. By carrying so many brands, you can still find your favorite flavor, even if your first option is not available.
Before Juul hit the vaping scene with their compact device, vapers were gravitating towards ever larger and more powerful box mods. As far as generating clouds, extracting a satisfying experience from lower nicotine, high VG ejuices and pulling all the delicious sweetness from an ejuice, nothing beats a box mod. But they are also loud, thirsty and require quite a bit of liquid to keep them up and running. This created a huge opening for a device that was silent, generated next to no vapor, burned minimal juice and satisfied with just one puff.
Juul was able to provide a satisfying experience from what is an underpowered and smaller device with nic salts. For a complete breakdown of how Juul changed the face of vaping, check out our feature: The Truth and Technology Behind Juul and Nic Salts.
A Juul is able to do a lot with a little because the nicotine strength in nic salts can be ramped up to a point where you just do not need very much. Nicotine salts have a lower pH than regular nicotine, meaning you can add a lot more and it will still be tolerable.
Disposable vapes operate on much the same principal and the newest generation exclusively use salt nic. Most have a nic strength of 5 or 6 percent, and although larger models are hitting the market, the vast majority hold about 1.5ml of ejuice and have a 280mAh.
Perhaps the most popular of the disposable vapes in Puff Bar, and it has proven to be the heir apparent to Juul. Easy to use, satisfying and available in the types of amazing flavors that at one time adult vapers could enjoy in a Juul but are now illegal in the US.
Puff Bar versus Juul
The original Puff Bar was in the right place at the right time. As Juul phased out beloved flavors like Mango, Mint, Cream and Coconut, Puff Bar hit the scene with dozens of spot on flavors. With the same nic strength as the standard Juul (5 percent) and nearly twice the ejuice capacity (1.3ml versus 0.7ml), they were actually a better price performer despite being disposable. The Puff Bar’s 280mAh battery offered significantly more life than a Juul vaporizer, although the Puff Bar cannot be recharged.
The flavor of a Puff Bar Disposable Ecigs are spotless and just as discrete and satisfying as any Juul pod flavor. The Juul and Puff Bar are roughly the same size as well. As far as the draw, an important consideration, the Puff Bar provides just as taut and realistic of an experience as the Juul, and if anything is less prone to leakage.
Select Puff Bar flavors are available in 2 percent nic strength, giving it the same level of flexibility as a Juul in regards to nicotine options. We reviewed the lower nicotine Puff Bar and found it had just as much flavor as the full strength.
The primary drawback to the Puff Bar is that as a disposable, you can’t just pop a fresh pod on top. This is fine if the disposable is a back-up device or being used when traveling but is a detriment if it is your everyday driver. This is why Puff Bar has been releasing ever larger disposables.
What is better than a Puff Bar? How about an enormous Puff Bar with over twice the ejuice capacity that is still available in the same flavors.
The ratio of ml to puffs is not one to one, the Blazer Bar for instance holds 0.7ml and in my experience lasts as long as disposables that in theory have twice the capacity, but the Puff Bar Plus holds 3.2ml of ejuice and has a 550mAh battery. This means it lasts longer than a Puff Bar. A lot longer. Full Stop.
According to Puff Bar, the Plus model is good for twice as many puffs as the original Puff Bar. The other major enhancement of the Puff Bar Plus over the original Puff Bar, apart from the big bump in battery and ejuice capacity, is a nicely formed mouthpiece and improved vapor production. You won’t find every obscure Puff Bar flavor in the Plus but the greatest hits are all there. If your favorite flavor is found in the Plus, there is no reason not to give it a shot.
Even bigger than the Puff Bar Plus is the Puff Flow. With a massive 4ml ejuice capacity, 600mAh battery and adjustable airflow, it may not be much bigger than a Juul but is operating on a different level in terms of performance. The Puff Flow has a unique selection of flavors, rather than just utilizing the greatest hits from the original Puff Bar line. Nonetheless, they are the flavors that adult vapers prefer: fruits, tropical fruits, more fruits and blasts of menthol
Juul was once at the top of the world as far as providing popular and flavorful cigarette alternatives. Unfortunately, the teen vaping epidemic brought a fair amount of deserved attention their way and even larger amount of unfair attention to flavored ejuices. Even the CDC tobacco survey that examined why kids vape, and that flavors weren’t the primary reason, was not enough to save flavored prefilled vape pods.
This has left Juul with a very pared down lineup of just tobacco and menthol. We have created several resource pages to help you find alternatives, and you will basically find a Puff Bar equivalent to every Juul flavor, as well as the popular Vuse Alto Mixed Berry.
When Dr. Farsalino surveyed 69,000 adult vapers who once smoked and found a sizeable majority preferred fruit, dessert and beverage ejuices over tobacco, he was merely confirming what the market has long shown. It will be very hard for Juul to compete with flavored disposable vapes as long as they are an option and they are clearly playing the long game hoping that the FDA shuts down the entire independent industry with the PMTA process.
